REMINDER: Oviedo Community Police Academy is coming in August

It is time again for the Oviedo Police Department’s Community Police Academy.
The annual Oviedo Police Department's Community Police Academy is an excellent opportunity for interested adults (18 years or older) to interact with members of the police department and learn more about what it takes to be a police officer. The academy is scheduled to begin August 11, 2009, is limited to 30 students, and meets every Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. for 11 weeks.
Students will be introduced to basic laws, investigative techniques, defensive tactics, and will have an opportunity to operate firearms at the gun range. Upon successful completion of the program, there will be a graduation ceremony honoring those who attended. This course of instruction is free of charge, and graduates are eligible to apply to become an Oviedo Citizen on Patrol. Applicants must complete an application (available during business hours at the Oviedo Police Department) or online at http://www.cityofoviedo.net and pass a criminal background check.
For more information and to sign up, please contact the Community Police Academy Coordinator Lt. Travis Cockcroft at 407-971-5710, or email him at tcockcroft@cityofoviedo.net.
